“If status of a regional language is given to Armenian in Javakhetia, then Azerbaijanis, Kurds and other national minorities should also demand it. But they do not think about it. According to Georgia's Constitution, Georgian is the state language and the Abkhaz language is the second language in Abkhazia. Over 70,000 people live in Javakhetia, over 60,000 Armenians live in this region, and there are a lot of Armenians in Tbilisi. They have school, theater, newspapers and other rights. Armenians speak their language freely. Georgia is a multinational state. Special status will not be given to any other language here. I advise the representatives of the national minorities to learn Georgian. If we choose the way Armenians point to, we will let Georgia and its statehood perish,“Georgian parliamentarian Georgi Sagareishvili told APA Georgian bureau. According to him, when Bolsheviks came to power, some parts of Kvemo_Kartli were given to Armenians in 1921 thanks to Stalin and Orjonikidzeh. We had our historical and cultural monuments as well as churches there. Armenians also had claims about Nagorno Karabakh. But Armenians should understand that they are to live together with Azerbaijanis. They must understand that one day Georgia and Azerbaijan liberate their historical lands. |
