PRIME MINISTRY MAKES A GESTURE TO BAKU ON KARABAKH

Prime Ministry made a significant gesture to Baku to ease the tension between Turkey and Armenia which emerged as Turkish government was struggling to normalize its relations with Armenia. Prime Ministry has allocated its publication for 100th book to Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The 100th publication of Prime Ministry, titled as “Karabakh in Ottoman Archives” covers the history of status of Nagorno Karabakh. 700-page book is also holds a qualification as data for Azerbaijan to be used in the international area for struggle of liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh. The book includes 119 documents from Ottoman Empire archives which bear a torch to 500 years of history of Azerbaijan. Documents include population statistics in Caucasus and maps of the province of Gence in 1732. Book also includes correspondences over the massacres in Karabakh, struggle of other countries to increase the Armenian population in the region, and Karabakh Khanate’s demand for help from Ottomans.

The most interesting document in the book is the letter that is sent to Ottoman administration by Khan of Karabakh, Ibrahim Halil. Khan of Karabakh declares the loyalty of Karabakh Khanate to Ottoman Empire with all other Azerbaijani Khanates. The book also include population statistics of Caucasus in 1914. Russian statistics say that there were 1, 174 million Muslims in Karabakh while there were 34 thousand Russians, 1107 Georgians and 177 thousand Armenians. Russian government’s statistics declare the total number of Muslims in the Caucasus as 4,679,487 while Ottoman archives say that there were 7 million Muslims in Caucasus while there were 1,5 million Muslims in Gence.

Speaking about the publication, Prime Ministry’s State Archives General Director Yusuf Sarinay said that the copies of the book will be sent to the Azerbaijani government.
