![]() Replying the parliamentary question that was presented by a parliamentarian from Republican People’s Party, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutolgu said that Turkey’s ’Armenia opening’ and Nabucco project are irrelevant issues. Davutoglu said that ratification of the protocols that are signed with Armenia for normalization of bilateral relations is at parliament's sole discretion. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu replied the parliamentary question that is issued by Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Canan Aritman. Reminding that Turkey’s initiatives towards normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia started after Armenia proclaimed its independence in 1991, Davutoglu said that two countries could not normalize the relations because of various reasons. Davutoglu said that the conflict in South Caucasus that emerged in the August of 2008 revealed the danger of the regional problems for security, stability and cooperation. Davutoglu said that Turkey accelerated diplomatic efforts towards solution of the problems and proposed establishment of Caucasus Stability and Cooperation Platform. He said that Armenia was also invited as a member country near other Caucasian states and the dialogue process with Armenia was accelerated for resolution of the problems. Reminding the protocols that Turkey and Armenia signed in the mediation of Switzerland, Davutoglu said that Turkey never ignored the interests of Azerbaijan during the process of rapprochement with Armenia. Stressing that Turkey kept informing Azerbaijan over the process, Davutolgu said, “Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is sacred to us as the territorial integrity of our own country.”Underscoringthat Turkey continues efforts towards resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh problem in every platform, Davutoglu said that normalization between Turkey and Armenia will not be possible without a comprehensive normalization in South Caucasus. Stressing that Turkish government signed protocols to create an opportunity for a comprehensive normalization in Caucasus, Foreign Minister said, “Our aim is both establishment of Turkey-Armenia relations and paving the way for a peace respecting territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Because of these, protocols are presented to the Turkish Parliament and determination of the date of ratification of the protocolsis up to the Turkish Grand National Assembly.” |
