Karabakh Must Never Be Under Azerbaijani Rule - Serzh Sargsyan

Armenia's President Serzh Sargsyan has said that Nagorno-Karabakh must never again be under Azerbaijani rule.

Addressing a meeting with the representatives of an NGO called "Together" in Lake Sevan, Sargsyan said that generally the Karabakh conflict has been solved.

"We have only one way out: Karabakh must never come under Azerbaijani rule. And we will achieve it," said Sargsyan.

"Generally the issue has been solved. Who went to Nagorno-Karabakh and doubted and they are not an independent state? The people of Nagorno-Karabakh have become self-determined far long ago and are mastering their own fate," Sargsyan added.

Further, he said that Nagorno-Karabakh must have been recognized in reality and that Karabakh's security must not be guaranteed with force only.

"This is the whole problem. Sooner or later the issue will be solved. The sooner, the better both for Azerbaijan, for Armenia and for Karabakh," stressed Sargsyan.

He also said that the Karabakh conflict is a complicated one, or else it would have been resolved far long ago.

"If it were an easy one, it would have been resolved long ago. It is a complicated one because this issue is a sensitive one both for Azerbaijan, for Armenia, for Azerbaijanis and for Armenians, because it has deep roots," explained he.

Sargsyan went on to say that the Azerbaijani leadership has for decades been insincere towards its people by telling them that Nagorno-Karabakh is an Azerbaijani territory, which is one of the factors hindering the resolution of the conflict.

"We have to find the key to a peaceful solution. I mean Armenia, Karabakh and Azerbaijan, though it is very difficult. I cannot mention any concrete date. How can we speak about concrete dates when every day Azerbaijani officials deliver anti-Armenian speeches?" asked Sargsyan.
