Georgia 'May Be Next Target Of Armenian Terrorism'

E-mail Print PDF

Armenian terrorism may manifest itself in new acts very soon. There are sufficient grounds to assume that Georgia will be the next target.

Unfortunately, this highly undesirable, tragic prediction arises from the traditions of Armenian terrorism and increasing claims of Armenians around the world on Georgia.

First and foremost, it is well known that Armenians worldwide make claims not only on the lands of Azerbaijan, but also Georgia, namely, historical Georgian land Samtskhe-Javakheti. Back in 1985, representatives of Armenians worldwide, who gathered in Athens for the 23rd congress of the Dashnaktsutyun Party, raised the issue of extending the borders of Armenia in one direction or another. The majority of the meeting participants voted for the capture of Azerbaijani, but not Georgian territories at that time.

Nagorno-Karabakh, an autonomy within Azerbaijan populated also by Armenians, was a first step by Armenians worldwide towards restoring the mythical “Greater Armenia”. Armenians see Samtskhe-Javakheti as a second step in this direction and it is no coincidence that various Armenian experts and analysts, in other words, mouthpieces of Armenians across the world make calls for Armenia to seize political, economic and public control over the sole route leading to the Black Sea. Any scenario by Armenians entails terrorist acts as a mechanism of pressure on any state as a way of reminding the world about itself.

Secondly, we must not forget that the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsyutyun, the cradle of the ideas of Armenian terrorism, was founded in 1890 exactly in Tbilisi. This suggests that the world's Armenians used Georgian territory a century ago to prepare their plans of conquest and they relied on terrorism in realizing them. And there is a big threat that the forces financed from abroad as well as by third countries and Armenians worldwide, are waiting for an order to carry out attacks on Georgian territory.

Thirdly, Armenians worldwide are unhappy at Tbilisi’s support for Baku on resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. Tbilisi has voiced its support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the need for the withdrawal of troops from the Armenian-seized lands of Azerbaijan. A similar statement was made at a conference “Azerbaijan – 20th anniversary of the restoration of state independence” in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Batumi.

The statement came from Georgia's state minister for diaspora affairs, Mirza (Papuna) Davitaia. It is highly likely that only through acts of terrorism can Armenians around the world try to get Tbilisi to change its official stance on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Fourth, Armenians are unhappy at the actions and remarks of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. Increasing anti-Georgia sentiments among Armenians worldwide and the Armenian media followed Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's remarks for The Business Year — Azerbaijan 2011 magazine. "Georgia and Azerbaijan should stand by each other, taking into account our geographical position and common history. We share a common vision, we have strong ties. Both our states have serious problems with regard to unresolved conflicts, and every opponent of Azerbaijan and Georgia is an enemy of both our countries. Our strength lies in unity, and these are not just words, but reality," Saakashvili said in his remarks. We are well aware that Armenian terrorism has targeted diplomats from a number of countries around the world on numerous occasions. So, Armenian terrorist attacks against Georgia's top political leadership are quite possible.

Fifth, the Armenians worldwide are greatly concerned that Armenia remains on the sidelines of a number of regional projects which could have helped Armenia out of the self-isolation in which it ended up due to the occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani territory and disrespect for the territorial integrity of almost all neighbouring states. The Armenians may raise the issue of Armenia’s inclusion in future regional projects, such as Nabucco, by committing terrorist acts on the territory of Georgia and at facilities of strategic importance.

Sixth, the recognition of the so-called ‘Armenian genocide” has fallen off the agenda against the backdrop of deepening global financial and economic crisis in Baku and Europe. And Armenians worldwide believe any terrorist act in Georgia, a highly important strategic ally of the US in the region, can draw the attention of the United States to the so-called “Armenian genocide”.

Seventh, Armenian media reported recently that the Armenian terrorist organization ASALA [Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia] is going to resume its activity. Consequently, there is every reason to expect new terrorist attacks by s Armenians worldwide.
