“I wouldn’t like to ruin anybody’s good mood today on the eve of anniversary summit, but Armenian president’s speech on the situation in Nagorno Karabakh forces me to do it”, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh said at the CIS summit in Dushanbe.
The Prime Minister made second speech at the meeting because of Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan’s statement followed his first speech. Sargsyan said that Nagorno Karabakh declared its independence 20 years ago and the people of Nagorno Karabakh used their self-determination right and achieved the independence at the expense of their blood.
In response to his speech, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh strongly criticized the Armenian president. “I think most of the participants of this meeting know about the Nagorno Karabakh problem and I hope that Armenian president’s speech is for those, who are not aware of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, or it is for use in domestic policy. When I attentively heard this speech, I thought that may be we have to vote for the independence of Nagorno Karabakh at the leaders’ summit? Then why we need in OSCE Minsk Group or other initiatives? The essence of the issue is that one side – member of CIS attacked another side and occupied 20 percent of its lands and turned more than one million people into refugees and internally displaced persons. I can talk about this tragedy much, but I wouldn’t like to do it because of above-mentioned reasons. I consider that Armenia once again demonstrated non-constructive position on the settlement of this heavy and protracted conflict. Azerbaijan hopes for peaceful and fair solution of the problem within the framework of the international law and will further actively participate in the process led by the OSCE Minsk Group and support other initiatives”.
