Armenian Mass Media Disseminate Next Lie About Karabakh

E-mail Print PDF

News.Az agency has received a letter from reader Tabib Huseynov, which reads as follows:

"Armenian mass media have just spread an ‘urgent statement’ which says that the Uruguayan Foreign minister Luis Almagro had allegedly said:

“We are studying the Karabakh problem for announcement of an official stance, but I am personally convinced that Karabakh is a historical part of Armenia and it must be either independent or become part of Armenia. This is the only solution to the Karabakh conflict”

(http://lragir.am/russrc/politics20481.html, http://asbarez.com/98016/uruguay-may-recognize-nagorno-karabakh-republic and etc.)

I have tried to find the original quote in Spanish and found the text of the speech on the website of the Armenian diaspora in South Ametica ‘Concejo Nacional Armenia de Sudamedica’ (http://www.cna.org.ar/2011/09/09/uruguay-reconoceria-nagorno-karabagh/).

Please, find below an extract from the speech of the Uruguayan Foreign minister corresponding to the part of his words, in which he allegedly speaks about the belonging of Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia:

"Creemos, y hemos analizado el tema exhaustivamente Nagorno Karabagh, estamos buscando los consensos, y  vamos a seguir buscando los concesos nacionales para tomar una decisión de estado al respecto. Nosotros personalmente entendemos que Nagorno karabagh es y está íntimamente ligado a Armenia. A su población Armenia, y que o su independencia o su ligazón a Armenia en el futuro es el mejor camino para Nagorno Karabagh."

Translation:

“We have discussed the problem of Nagorno Karabakh widely, we are in search of consensus, and we will continue the search of national privileges from the state, which adopts a decision on this issue (that is Azerbaijan). We personally understand that Nagorno Karabakh is closely linked to Armenia. People in Armenia believe that independence or future links to Armenia is the best solution for Nagorno Karabakh”.

It makes clear that Armenian mass media are distorting his words and attributing him the words that he has never said.

The Uruguayan foreign minister said nothing about the ‘historical belonging’ of Karabakh to Armenia or the country’s intention to recognize Karabakh. It is just another Armenian propaganda hoax!".
