'Sargsyan Deceives His Own People'

E-mail Print PDF

Whatever Sargsyan says, recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh as independent state is impossible and remarks made in this regard are nothing but populism.

The statement came from fellow at history chair at Virginia University (US), political expert Barin Kayaoglu while commenting on Armenian president’s remarks introducing Nagorno-Karabakh to world community as an independent state.

“I believe it is ridiculous to introduce Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state and claim that it has been self-sufficient for 20 years. “Nagorno-Karabakh” regime can never be an independent state and this issue is never raised in international talks. It means Sargsyan tries to deceive his own people by making such statements,” Kayaoglu said.

The analyst said raising such an issue at this time means bringing the situation in the region to a level of war.

“In event a war resumes in the region, it will be impossible to preserve the stability that persists for many years and this will endanger Armenia’s independence,” Kayaoglu added.
