15 September is a day when fraternal states proved their unity in practice.
The statement came from analyst at XXI Century Turkey Institute Ikbal Vurucu from Ankara.
“Baku was rescued from occupation of Russian-Armenian and English occupying forces on that day. This was not occupation of Azerbaijan by the Ottoman Empire as noted by some USSR and Western historians because there are no cultural boundaries between Azerbaijani and Ottoman Turks,” the expert said.
“The Ottoman forces put an end to Russian occupation in Baku as they did in case of Erzurum and Kars. Though these provinces are not part of Azerbaijan’s political geography, they are territories close to the cultural geography of the country.”
The analyst believes the processes on international arena were developing at such a fast pace at that time that the agreement Azerbaijan People’s Republic signed with the Ottoman Empire on 4 June 1918 served as a “agreement of salvation” for the country.
“Military and political assistance was vital for Azerbaijan at that time to survive. The Ottoman Empire helped Azerbaijan with its army of 15,000 soldiers led by Nuru Pasha under the 4 June agreement.
“There were heavy battles for integrity of Azerbaijan and the country was liberated from occupiers as a result. Today marks a day of victory for Azerbaijan and Turkey,” Vurucu noted.
