E-mail Print PDF

Georgia's Ambassador to Armenia Tengiz Sharmanashvili has been summoned to Armenia's Foreign Ministry.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tigran Balayan said that Sharmanashvili was summoned because of Georgia statement about municipal elections in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Earlier, Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the country recognized Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.

It also said that Georgia does not recognize the September 18 elections in Karabakh, referring them as "illegitimate".

The statement further said that Georgia welcomes the efforts by the international community aimed at the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, adding that there is no alternative to dialogue over the issue.
