“Azerbaijan Is Concerned About The Situation Around The Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant”

“Armenia’s Metsamor nuclear power plant is very dangerous for the region. This plant doesn’t meet the European standards, depleted its resources and the European Union repeatedly demanded its closing. Despite it, the Armenian government strengthened the plant’s activity, as well as the passed a decision on construction of new reactor”, said president of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences Mahmud Karimov, APA reports.

Karimov said that from the seismic point of view, the territory of Metsamor plant is dangerous, there is water deficiency problem because it is situated in the mountainous area: “That’s why Azerbaijan is concerned about the situation around the plant very much. Various international organizations have examined Metsamor for 10 times this year. But the results of these examinations were not presented to us. We demanded the International Atomic Energy Agency to increase the transparency on Metsamor, to inform Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia about the results of the examination, to ensure the participation of neighboring countries in the examinations of the plant”.
