Romania tries to maintain political balance in relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The Karabakh issue is very important for the region, said Romania’s Ambassador to Armenia Crina Prunariu.
Asked about NATO’s position on the conflict and Russia’s possible response in case of resumption of hostilities by Azerbaijan, the Romanian diplomat recalled that the conflict is beyond the scope of NATO.
However, it does not mean NATO will be indifferent. According to her, there may be other scenarios - for example, the dialogue between Russia and NATO.
Commenting on the opinion that relations between Romania and Azerbaijan are developing more actively than with Armenia, the ambassador said that this view is partially justified.
“Romania and Azerbaijan are linked by the interests of energy security, it is undeniable fact. But in political terms, Romania is trying to maintain balance. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not,” Prunariu told the journalists on Tuesday.
The Ambassador added that Romania is trying to act so as not to demonstrate preference to one side or another, both in the international arena and bilateral relations.
