Turkish Archaeologist: Karabakh Never Belonged To Armenians

E-mail Print PDF

A Turkish archaeologist has said that Armenia's claims on the Azerbaijani territory of Nagorno-Karabakh are unfounded historically.

This lands has been inhabited by Azerbaijani Turks, Adil Yilmaz told Gun.Az.

“Contrary to the claims of Armenian scholars, Karabakh never belonged to them and they are not indigenous people in the Caucasus. Karabakh was part of the ancient Turkic states created in Azerbaijan and the state of Albania founded later. Armenians settled in the Caucasus in large numbers after the 9th century. Russian sources also confirm this,” Yilmaz said.

The archaeologist called on Armenians to abandon false claims and accept reality.

“If you conduct archeological excavations in any part of Karabakh, you will find items belonging to Azerbaijani Turks. Otherwise, Armenians would not destroy finds belonging to Azerbaijani Turks. This is a cowardly approach to history,” he said.
