'Sarkozy’s Armenia Visit Mainly Meant For Domestic Policy'

E-mail Print PDF

French President Nicolas Sarkozy visited Armenia rather for domestic purposes.

The statement came from Azerbaijani MP, political expert Rasim Musabayov.

Sarkozy tries to take cautious steps towards Armenian lobby in France due to coming elections, he said.

'The visit to Azerbaijan is more important for France. Azerbaijan represents strategic importance for France. I believe this will impact Sarkozy’s policy.'

However, Sarkozy will be cautious till the elections not to irritate Armenian lobby and his pro-Armenian rivals, the expert added.

'The resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is expected to see certain progress. But France’s role in this will be felt especially after the elections. Though Sarkozy made a statement on “genocide” to win sympathy of Armenians, he also called them to ready for heavy decisions related to Karabakh.'

In any case, Azerbaijan should maintain normal relations with France, he noted.
