Azerbaijan is continuing to work to find and obtain copies of valuable historical maps from world archives and libraries, an academic has said.
The head of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Oriental Studies, MP Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, told 1news.az that to date 87 valuable historical maps had been found.
The project to find and acquire historical maps, proving the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, is funded by the Azerbaijani president's Science Development Foundation.
"These maps are of paramount importance in studying the historical geography of our country. Copies have already been brought into the country," Govhar Bakhshaliyeva said.
"With these maps it is not difficult to trace, for example, the historic period in the Caucasus when the Armenians appeared - it happened after the targeted resettlement of Armenian families by tsarist Russia in the Caucasus region.
"So the territory of modern Armenia is native land of the Azerbaijani people. Work on this is continuing. There is a plan to obtain copies of the most valuable historical maps from archives and libraries in Spain, France, Egypt and elsewhere," the MP said.
