Armenization of the historical and cultural monuments in the occupied Azerbaijani territories continues.
The statement came from chairman of the Organization for Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan Faig Ismayilov.
Ismayilov said through armenization of the Azerbaijani monuments in the occupied territories the Armenian government wants to erase the traces of the Azerbaijanis from these lands.
'It is observed in the territory of Nagorno Karabakh, especially in Lachin and Kalbajar, because these territories are of special importance for Armenians,' he said.
Ismayilov said Agoglan castle is one of the historical, architectural and archeological monuments in Lachin and Kalbajar that can serve as an example to the world culture.
'Agoglan castle covers 2 ha area on the 30th km of Lachin-Minkend highway, on the right bank of the Hekeri river, near Kosalar village. The monument has been under the occupation of Armenian military forces since May 18, 1992. After the occupation of Azerbaijani territories in 1992-1994 Armenian Republic made changes in the architectural structure and interior of Agoglan monastery, damaged the writings on the wall, erased several stone inscriptions, numerous ornaments and symbols dating back to the Alban period, changed the forms of most of them,” he said.
Ismayilov said relevant bodies of Armenia renamed Agoglan monastery in 1999 as Tsitsernavank, since then it has been included into the list of the monuments of the Armenian Republic, now it is promoted as an Armenian church. Several 2.5-meter cross stones made in Yerevan were installed near the entry of the complex in 2009.
The complex is being repaired, archeological excavations have started. With regard to these actions the Organization for Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments in the Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan will sue Armenia at the European Court of Human Rights.
