'The seismic activity in Turkey and Armenia, generally, in South Caucasus is very high, the earthquakes that occur here are very active and dangerous.
Everybody remember the terrible quakes that occurred recently in Turkey and in 1980s in Armenia.
This quake can also destroy “Metsamor” Nuclear Power Plant', Georgian expert for the South Caucasus Mamuka Areshidze said.
According to him, the ecological disaster stronger than Chernobyl can occur in the South Caucasus:
'Iran and Turkey can be damaged from the accident’s consequences. Some nuclear experts take this threat into account and propose the closing of “Metsamor” NPP. But the NPP belongs to Russia but not Armenia. That’s why, if the tragedy occurs, this country’s power engineers, politicians must know that Russia is responsible for it.
Russia has its own problems on the NPP, because the useful life of majority of NPPs in Russia expired. One needs to stop their activity. It is the opinion of the experts. At present, “Metsamor” NPP is the most dangerous entity in the South Caucasus'.
