The foundation of the US-Azerbaijani relations was laid in the early 1990’s almost from the moment of recognition of Azerbaijan by the United States.
The statement came from Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, rector of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy Hafiz Pashayev.
He was speaking in the conference ‘20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence-development of Azerbaijani diplomacy'.
He said, the signing of the Contract of the Century in 1994 signalized the start of the second stage of the Azerbaijani-US relations, which factually laid the basis for strategic partnership between the two states.
He said the second stage of the US-Azerbaijani relations laying the basis for strategic partnership between the two states started with the signing of the Contract of the Century in 1994.
“It was in this period that the concept of Azerbaijan in integration in Euroatlantic structures was defined. The third period of our relations started after 11 September 2001, when Azerbaijan and the United States started closer cooperation in the sphere of combat against terrorism”, the deputy minister said.
As for the influence of the Armenian lobby on foreign policy of the United States, Pashayev said that now Armenian lobby is unable to reach the goals it could reach a few years ago.
“The relations with Azerbaijan are rather preferable to the United States than with Armenia. I believe in prospects and development of our relations”, Hafiz Pashayev said.
