Sargsyan is trying to look constructive and tolerant.
It is encouraging and all the same surprising to hear such statements from a person, who attempted to persuade all that ‘there are no Christians east of us’ and that 'Armenians are the most ancient Christian nation on the earth'.
The statement came from spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev. He commented on the statement from Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan who said that Nagorno Karabakh conflict has no religious pretext.
He said there a feeling of evolution in the Armenian president’s way of thinking, ‘however, even without his statements, it is clear that Nagorno Karabakh conflict does not contain a political pretext’.
"It is clear that this conflict is based on territorial claims of Armenia to Azerbaijan", Abdullayev said.
It is interesting that Sargsyan is trying to look constructive and tolerant despite the fact that Muslim religious and cultural monuments were terminated by Armenia throughout those years in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan and current Armenian lands, belonging to Azerbaijanis, said the spokesman.
According to several Armenian mass media, while speaking 28 November at the session of the presidium of the CIS Interreligious Council, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that Karabakh conflict does not contain a religious pretext and the confrontation of the two religions-Christianity and Islam cannot be tolerated.
