Turkish Opposition Against Business Relations With Armenia

E-mail Print PDF

Turkish opposition leaders made comments on some forces’ plans to establish business relations between Turkey and Armenia. Member of the parliament from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Professor Ozcan Yenicari told that these projects aimed to damage the Turkish-Azerbaijani brotherhood.

“Such projects have always existed. Turkey faced with capitulating Sevres treaty. Then they tried to give all Cyprus to Greeks. Now some non-governmental organizations supported by the West are continuing old games using the unstable foreign policy of the government. Those, who signed a memorandum for the development of trade relations between Turkey and Armenia, have no relation to Turkey. They are financed by the foreign Armenian organizations. Their main goal is to create discords between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Look back to the state of relations between the two fraternal countries after the signing of Zurich protocols in October, 2009. Unfortunately Turkish flags were lowered in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani flags were lowered in Turkey. Armenians aim to make Azerbaijan dissatisfied with Turkey and to create confrontation between the two fraternal countries and to make them to forget the occupation of Karabakh”.

Yenicari considers that Azerbaijan should establish strong lobby in Turkey against so-called non-governmental organizations, which try to create confrontation. “We have to establish joint non-governmental organizations in the fields of politics, culture and economy. Armenia supported by the OSCE Minsk Group members tries to prolong the occupation of Karabakh as far as it can. I always said that the way of liberation of Karabakh from the occupation passes through Ankara. We have to establish strong Azerbaijani lobby in Turkey to struggle against these non-governmental organizations, which are supported by the foreign Armenian organizations and don’t think about the interests of Turkey”.

Deputy chairman of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), MP from Adana, former Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Faruk Logoglu said any steps and initiatives should meet requirements of the relations with Azerbaijan and this is main condition for the establishment of any relation between Turkey and Armenia. “Why Turkish-Armenian relations are in this state? This is because of Nagorno Karabakh problem. While this problem is not being solved, any step between Turkey and Armenia will damage the Turkish-Azerbaijani relations. The non-governmental organizations are attempting to do something independently, but sometimes it is impossible to control their activity. Such contacts should have common framework that is the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories and solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Only after that the process can be easy”.
