Armenian Energy Minister Armen Movsisyan stated that since now, Mestamor NPP will be governed by Armenian side.
Russian state company Inter RAO UES last month announced about early refusal to operate the nuclear plant. In accordance with agreement, the company took responsibility to govern the plant from 2003 to 2013.
“In 2003, to help Armenia to pay off debts, the Russian side offered to govern the nuclear plant. As a result “Inter RAO” was chosen to operate the plant. In a short period of time all debts were paid off, and naturally the operation began to run in an automotive manner. So, for several years there was no meaning for the Russian company to operate the plant. Moreover, the company had structural changes as a result of which it began to deal with only purchase and sale of energy,” the minister said.
“This was the reason why Inter RAO applied to terminate the operation of the NPP. Now, the operation will be led by a company of our nuclear station”, Movsisyan told Azatutyun radio.
