Hilary Clinton, in her speech concerning World Human Rights Day on 9 December 2011, spoke about violations.
It's regrettable that US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton brings forward completely groundless allegations about Azerbaijan, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Elman Abdullayev told 1news.az while commenting the US official's statement.
"This accusation can be considered completely biased, especially when looking at the fact that event the Declaration of Human Rights doesn’t have commonly accepted definition of political prisoners", Abdullayev stressed.
Note that Hilary Clinton, in her speech concerning World Human Rights Day on 9 December 2011, spoke about violations and mentioned Azerbaijani Republic as one of negative examples.
According to the ministry official, it was not exactly clear what the US secretary of state meant.
"In addition, the statement clearly contradicts the spirit of partnership formed between our countries considering the fact that Azerbaijan always demonstrates devotion to the principles of democracy, human rights and supremacy of law", Abdullayev noted.
According to the official, as a young country, Azerbaijan demonstrates a vital progress in the current sphere.
"We have proved many times that Azerbaijani Republic makes a rapid progress in consolidating democratic institutions, observing human rights and supremacy of law. Unfortunately, such achievements are not reflected in the statement of our partner", Abdullayev said.
The official noted that Azerbaijan considers statements of that kind biased.
"In this context, it's worth noting that a one-side approach can be clearly seen in the statement of the US official in relation to other South Caucasus countries. For example, the US side in its assessments practically didn’t mention Armenia while serious falsification in elections was fixed in this country and protesters encountered unprecedented pressure and shootings in the streets. Moreover, the fact that Armenia occupied Azerbaijani lands and forced one million Azerbaijani IDPs and refugees to leave their homes remains unnoticed", Abdullayev concluded noting that statements of that kind cause noting but regret.
