E-mail Print PDF

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Thursday that a draft law criminalizing rejection of Armenian allegations pertaining to the incidents of 1915 was "unacceptable".

Officials said that Davutoglu delivered a speech at a luncheon hosted by the EU term president Poland's ambassador to Turkey Marcin Wilczek in his honor, stating that EU ambassadors in Ankara also attended the luncheon.

Davutoglu said that the matter on Armenian allegations regarding 1915 incidents must not be taken up by politicians but by historians.

The initiative in France aimed at restricting freedoms of expression and thought, he said.

In the luncheon, Davutoglu also explained Turkey's demands from the EU on facilitating Shengen visa procedure for Turkish citizens, and said that if a step was taken on this matter, Turkey could take a step on readmission agreement.
