'Turkey is ready to open its documents and archives for research. But Nicolas Sarkozy is politicizing this historical issue'.
The statement came from member of the Turkish Parliament and Turkey-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group Mustafa Kabakchi, APA reports.
Kabakchi said that the politics, science and history are separate issues: “The genocide issue should be researched by the scientists. Unfortunately, France ignores the facts like Khojaly genocide, the occupation of 20% of territories of Azerbaijan, existence of 1 mln refugees. Instead leaving the 1915 events at the scientists’ disposal, they try to pass political decision. Turkey will continue its measures against it”.
The Turkish parliamentarian noted that Turkey and Islamic world should demonstrate unity while Armenia’s unfair occupation of Azerbaijani lands continues: “France’s position is directed not only against Turkey, but entire Turkic world. Turkey is not concerned about the clarification of the historic realities. If France wants to do something, it must express concrete position to put an end to Armenia’s aggressive policy against Azerbaijan”.
Asked 'Can Turkey recognize the genocide committed by France in Algeria and North Africa, if the French parliament adopts draft law considering the criminalization of denial of made-up “Armenian genocide', Kabakchi said: “Turkey has expressed its position on it. Our opinion is that the issue should be researched by the historians. Turkey has many things to do. Those who think that Turkey is an old Turkey will see that they were mistaken”
