Islamic Conference Youth Forum Issues Statement On French Parliament’s Decision To Criminalize Denial Of Made-Up “Armenian Genocide”

The Governing Board of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum (ICYF) issued statement on the French parliament’s decision to criminalize the denial of made-up “Armenian genocide”.

The statement reads that the unjust decision made by the French parliament on December 22 against the international norms and freedom of thoughts is very regrettable. “It is legally absurd decision to raise the theory not proved by the international legal mechanism and worked out only by a group of historians to the level of war crimes and to declare it a crime without the court decision. This is unawareness mixing up writers of history with the military courts. The draft law was proposed by the ruling party and approved by 10% of the parliament and it shows that this decision is a part of policy of Sarkozy government, which prefers to prejudice human rights and freedoms in these latter days, and appearance of artificial fomentation of Islamophobia and racist initiatives in France rather than the position of the French state. The French government, which tries to introduce itself as a herald of justice and punishment for the crimes “against humanity”, was not sincere in its decision, but takes the stance of discrimination and shows that that the decision was made within the domestic policy interests. If it is not so, the French parliament, eagerly putting hand to the events happened hundred years ago, wouldn’t turn a blind eye to the Khojaly massacre committed by the Armenians against Azerbaijanis 20 years ago and proved by the facts and documents”.

ICYF called the Senate of France to reject the parliament’s decision, which is contrary to the values of academic thoughts and freedom of speech declared by France, and which will cause new wave of non-confidence between Europe and Muslim world.
