"We Might Consider Additional Measures Against France"

E-mail Print PDF

The Minister for European Union Affairs and Chief EU negotiator Egemen Bağış said France could face further sanctions after its National Assembly passed a bill penalizing the denial of the 1915 incidents.

Egemen Bağış spoke to French news agency AFP in Lithuania's capital Vilnius and said this debate will continue to grab the headlines until the presidential elections in France.

Noting that they might have to make another situation assessment after the election process, Bağış said "We have imposed a series of sanctions against France. If this unreasonable project becomes a law, there could be additional sanctions."

The bill on the 1915 incidents, adopted by French National Assembly, will be taken up by the French Senate on 23 January.
