'Armenian Lobby Aims To Delay Appointment Of US Envoy To Azerbaijan’

E-mail Print PDF

If the US makes any appointment to the post of ambassador to Azerbaijan, no doubt, this candidate will face pressure.

This is because the goal of the Armenians is to delay this appointment as long as possible.

The statement came to Gun.Az by Yusif Babanli, cofounder and secretary general of the US Azerbaijani Network (USAN).

“As we expected, US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza was called back by the senators working under the influence of the Armenian lobby in this country. Of course, this was expectable since Bryza didn’t recognize so called ‘Armenian genocide’ and his wife was of Turkish origin”.

According to Babanli, if the US delays this appointment as did before, it can cause misunderstanding between the countries.

“Editor of the editorial page of ‘Washington Post’ Fred Hiatt’s saying that ‘the US sacrificed its national interests to the interests of ethnic group’ is a vivid example to this”.

Babanli considers that the Obama administration and the State Department will react more quickly and make this appointment soon.

“But they should understand that no matter how quickly this appointment is made, the senators biased to Armenian will put this appointment under suspicion and try to block it. I repeat that the Armenian lobby aims to delay this appointment as long as they can make it by abusing authorities given to the senators within the constitution”.
