Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel-General Safar Abiyev received the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Eric Rubin.
Press service of the Defense Ministry told that Defense Minister underlined the development of US-Azerbaijan relations in various spheres and the achievement of successes in bilateral military cooperation. Minister touched upon the current military and political situation in the region and informed the guest that Armenia’s occupation policy was continuing and one million refugees couldn’t return to their homes. Minister noted that the delay and deliberate protraction of peace process in the region creates groundwork of flaring up the war. Therefore the Minsk Group should strengthen its activity not to allow escalation of the tensions.
Commenting on the situation in the region, the guest said that this year they would increase attention to the elimination of the conflict and noted that the US is interested in the restoration of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. During the meeting the guest confirmed once again that the US recognized the fact of occupation of Azerbaijani lands.
