On 23 January 2012, Azerbaijani youths actively participated in a protest held outside the French Senate while it was discussing the bill criminalizing the denial of genocides, including so called “Armenian genocide”.
Representatives of the Azerbaijani Students and Alumni International Forum (ASAIF) in Europe organized participation of students and youths living in France and neighboring countries at the protest at high level.
ASAIF representatives gave interviews to local French TV channels, as well as Turkish TV channels and expressed their protest on behalf of the Azerbaijani youth. The declaration of the ASAIF representatives: As being the Azerbaijani Students and Alumni International Forum – ASAIF, the biggest network of Azerbaijani graduates and students studying abroad, we strictly condemn the bill criminalizing the denial of ‘Armenian genocide’ and declare that this step will seriously harm French-Turkish, as well as French-Azerbaijani relations.
Being educated Azerbaijani youths, we seriously doubt the presence of democracy and freedom of speech in France which acts against the values of democratic Europe and declare that our trust and confidence in this country has gone to zero. We demand the European Union, advocating freedom of speech, human rights, supremacy of law, scientific and conceptual attitude toward issues, to review the membership of France in this Union. France, with its non-constructive position, must be eliminated from the co-chairmanship at OSCE Minsk Group.
As high educated youths loving the motherland, we declare that we suspend the purchase of any goods and commodities of French production and flow of tourists from this country until the time the bill is liquidated. This proved once again that the Armenian lobby continues persistently to propagate issues based on lies and myths and sometime it manages to convince the world community to believe in these lies. As the Azerbaijani youths, we declare that we will continue our activity in a more intensive manner to thwart the Armenian lies and introduce all Azerbaijani realities to the world community with facts.
