Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus Padraig Murphy arrived in Azerbaijan.

APA reports that the special representative told journalists on his arrival that Ireland took over the OSCE Presidency in January: “As a Special Representative for the South Caucasus, I must visit the regional countries including Azerbaijan”.

The Special Representative noted that he would also discuss preparation of the OSCE Chairman’s visit to the region: “OSCE Chairman Eamon Gilmore will visit the South Caucasus in the next few months. The cooperation between the OSCE and Azerbaijan will be discussed during the visit. The Nagorno Karabakh conflict will also be on agenda”.

The Special Representative didn’t comment on the captivity of Azerbaijani Army’s junior sergeant by the Armenian Armed Forces and noted that the OSCE Minsk Group and Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk are addressing this issue.

The Special Representative commented on demands sounded in Azerbaijan for withdrawal of France from the OSCE Minsk Group and said: “We may discuss this issue with the Azerbaijani government”.

The OSCE Representative said that he would issue statement on the results of the visit after the meetings.
