Armenian FM Calls On Turkey To Keep Away From Karabakh Settlement

Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian has called on the Turkish side to keep away from the Karabakh settlement, if it really wants to help this process, News.Az reported.

Commenting on the statement of his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu that France must be removed from the Minsk Group because the French Senate adopted the bill on criminalizing the denial of Armenian allegations, or otherwise this process must involve Turkey, Nalbandian called them a ultimatum.

“As for these statements, especially related to participation in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict as a Minsk Group co-chair, we have already voiced our stance: if Turkey really wishes to help the process, it has to keep away from it as far as possible”, the Armenian FM told an interview with four leading TV channels of the country.

He said that from time to time, when the Turkish side sees the doors closed in front of itself, it uses a window to get in. “It is not the first time and causes no special surprise among us. But I don’t think that Turkey decides about formats and I don’t think that ultimatums on any issues may produce a positive effect”, Nalbandian said.

He reminded that following the trilateral meeting in Sochi, the president of Azerbaijan, like the president of Armenia, spoke for continuation of mediation of the French, Russian and US co-chairs in the same status unless peace is established in the region.

Commenting on the statements from Ankara about the French bias in process of the Karabakh settlement due to adoption of the law on Genocide, the Armenian FM called them senseless. “The law adopted by the Senate is not targeting any country. Guilty conscience needs no accuser”, Nalbandian said.

He noted that the more active Turkey is in denial of genocide, the more countries recognize it.

“When Turkey says that only Armenians speak of genocide, it is the same as to say that only Jews speak about Holocaust”, Nalbandian said.
