Bill on Recognition of Khojaly Genocide Presented to Turkish Parliament

Sinan Oghan, parliamentarian from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) representing Igdir, submitted to the Turkish parliament the bill on the recognition of Khojaly genocide.

At the press conference held at the parliament Sinan Oghan mentioned the bill passed by the French Senate criminalizing the denial of the so-called “Armenian genocide”, he underlined the importance of recognizing the Khojaly genocide and said he submitted to the Turkish parliament the relevant bill.

The bill envisages recognition of the genocide committed by Armenian in Azerbaijan’s town of Khojaly and declaration of February 26 as “Day of Commemoration of the Khojaly genocide”. The bill also offers to erect monument to the victims of Khojaly genocide in Igdir, Kars, Ardahan, Agri, Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Bursa, Kocaeli, Manisa regions. Ogan said that he would make a speech in connection with Khojaly genocide and the genocides committed by Armenians in Turkey during the discussion of current issues at the parliament’s meeting which will be held tomorrow.
