"The United States will take an active part in the resolution of the problems of the Black Sea and Caucasus region", said US ambassador to Armenia Mari Jovanovich.

"Unfortunately, the recent events in Georgia, as well as existing tensions in the relations between Armenia and Turkey and Armenia and Azerbaijan hamper the development of the Black Sea region. In order to reduce tensions, the United States call on all parties to establish an open dialogue", noted Jovanovich.

She said the invitation of the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to President of Turkey Abdullah Gul to visit Yerevan for watching a football match between the combined teams of the two countries and acceptance of this invitation by the Turkish president is a courageous step. "Serzh Sargsyan and Abdullah Gul are good diplomats. They have found new ways for cooperation and the steps they undertake may promote establishment of mutual trust between the regional countries", said the US diplomat.

As for Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Mari Jovanovich noted that the United States have definite hopes in connection with the resolution of the conflict. "There has been a definite progress in the negotiation process since 2004 and there is a package of documents on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict on the negotiation table today", noted the US ambassador to Armenia.
