SARKSYAN: RECOGNITION OF KARABAKH IS A LAST STEP IN THE PROCESS OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION

"Armenia has no right to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia before it recognizes Karabakh", said Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in the interview to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

"Europe must state definitely that one of the parties in the Karabakh conflict undermines the peaceful nature of the process. Moreover, when the international organization says that the conflict must be settled only on the basis of exactly defined principle of international law, a stimulus will be created for a party with a non-constructive position. Europe and some European states used the right for self-determination in case of Kosovo, but they did not do it when Russia wanted to do the same", noted Sargsyan.

At the same time, he noted that Armenia has no right to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia, before it recognizes Nagorno Karabakh. "Our people would not understand it. Today you will ask me why we do not recognize Karabakh. We consider that the recognition of independence is a last step in the process. We are not strong enough to recognize Karabakh unilaterally and thus settle the problem", said Sargsyan.
