TURKEY, ARMENIA TO CONTINUE CONTACTS IN NEXT DAYS, SAYS BABACAN

Turkey's FM said "Our aim is to totally normalize bilateral relations." Turkish and Armenian foreign ministers met in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Monday.

Turkey's Foreign Minister Ali Babacan and his Armenian counterpart Eduard Nalbandian had a working dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in Istanbul.

"Our aim is to totally normalize bilateral relations," Babacan told reporters after the meeting that lasted more than two hours. Babacan said that he discussed with Nalbandian bilateral relations, establishment of cooperation and stability platform in the Caucasus, and regional problems and defined their meeting as fruitful and constructive.

The Turkish foreign minister said that two countries would continue their political and technical contacts in coming days. Nalbandian also said that Babacan and he decided to go on with their efforts to normalize relations.

Armenian Foreign Minister Nalbandian earlier visited the secretariat of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) in Istanbul, and the permanent representation of his country to the organization. Armenia is actually holding the rotating presidency of the organization.
