ARMENIAN CLASSES STARTS IN 2009

Higher Education Board decided for classes in Armenian to start in 2009. Therefore Turkey will have experts who know Armenian langauge when Armenia opens its archives.

Support to the reconciliation process that started with the visit of President Abdullah Gul to Yerevan by the occasion of soccer game between Turkish and Armenian national teams, came from Higher Education Board(YOK). Higher Education Board declared that two university in Turkey will be let to open Armenian departments. Thus, next year there will be Armenian language and literature departments in two Turkish university for the first time.

The proposal was made by universities. The proposals of Trakya University and Nevsehir University was found favourable by Higher Education Board and it is let for two universities to open Armenian depoartments within Foreign Langages Faculty. The department will be limited with 20 students and will start education in September 2009.

Higher Education Board asked for the opinion of Foreign Ministry about the proposal of Universities. Foreign Ministry replied suggestion positively. Last year Higher Education Board let Bogazici University to give Armenian classes as optional subject.

It is declared that decision is made in favour of having more expert who knows Armenian language well if Armenia opens its archives. The archives of Armenians in Boston and Yerevan are closed and archive in Jerusalem is open only to some people.
