Historian and writer Ilber Ortayli told about the times of Sultan Abdulhamit II. Ilber Ortayli said that Ottomans were defending the rights of its citizens any time and said that Ottomans used to pay attention to its citizens. The director of Topkapi Palace Museum and lecturer of Galatasaray University Ilber Ortayli said that Germany was looking for a common nation to share their guilt of genocide.
Professor Ilber Ortayli said, "Genocide is not killing someone, or mass killings. Genocide is an act. First of all, you can't declare Enver Pasha and Talat Pasha as guilty because of this issue. Because the seeds of nationalist administration was buried in this country before. But if you pay attention you will realize that we do not have any saying against Armenians in our language. Russians do have, Europeans do have but we don't. This heavy issue is valid for Germans and Frechs unfortunately. They have a culture inclined to genocide, that is antisemitist. Germans are strong antisemitist people. The attitude of Germans in times of Hitler goes on. They still have the understanding of those times. Thus, of cource next German generations are guilty because of this heavy guilt too. What would happen, if a German stands and claims that they were not murderers?. The accusation of genocide goes on, and it wouldn't change even if Germans deny it".
Ilber Ortayli said, "Some people who earn Nobel prize says that it was not the fault of Turkish people but Enver and Talat Pashas were guilty about it. Then i have something to tell them; Goring and Hitler are responsible of the Holocaust, and Germans were innocent. Can we say that? Is it logical? Now Germans try to spread their guilt over us. They struggle for spreading the crime against humanity in their history to other nations. They just seek for common nations. Germans have a saying, "if everybody is guilty, then noone is guilty".
