AZERBAIJAN AND TURKEY WILL LAUNCH ARMS JOINT PRODUCTION

Turkish weapons manufacturer and defense contractor Roketsan and Azerbaijani military scientific and industrial enterprise Iglim has reached an agreement on the joint production of armaments.

Lutfi Varoglu, head of International Cooperation Department of the Undersecreteriat of National Defense of Turkey, cited the agreement as saying Roketsan and Iglim would launch the joint manufacturing of 107 mm and 122 mm 122 mm calibre multi-barrel rocket launcher systems as from March, 2009.

"Approvals and permissions have been received for the joint production of these weapons," he added. According to him, rocket launchers, some parts and molds of some arms will be made at Iglim enterprise and rockets will be manufactured at Roketsan's plants in Turkey. Lutfi Varoglu said the parties are not negotiating on the joint production of Roketsan Cirit, a laser-guided 70 mm rocket system.

Rocketsan multi-barrel rocket launcher systems designated the T-122 which entered service with the Turkish Land Forces Command in 1996 and is now being offered on the export market. According to Roketsan, the T-122 multi-barrel rocket launcher is an autonomous, artillery weapons system that is used for indirect fire-support missions under day and night conditions and in all weather conditions against area targets.

The TR-107 and TR-122 series rockets have the longest range within their class: 11 km and 40 km respectively.
