Gaziantep University Senate reacted to the apology campaign which is initiated by a group of Turkish intellectuals to apologize to Armenians about 1915 events.
The declaration of Gaziantep University Senate said there were no guilt in the history to apologize about. The declaration said;
"While Turkish nation was withdrawing from the great geography of Empire, it lived massacres, tortures, and many tragical immigrations but it buried all these events into its heart and opened doors to a new world. Nobody has the right to humiliate the memory of our ancestors. Neither to define them as guilty nor asking for an apologize.
Other than that, insisting in this issue is an obstacle for the steps that are wanted to be made and it creates a negative association of ideas for two nation while they are learning about each other again. Besides it damages the base of studies of historians who are making studies about this issue. Because of these, apology campaign is totally wrong. This event is serving to a false intention. We announce to public opinion that we do not support and do not find this action right."
