Azerbaijani www.mediaforum.az website declared that Russia sent Armenia different range of 800 million dollars worth arms free of charge. It is stated that arms are settled to the Gyumri Military base of Russia in Armenia.

Russia never stops arming Armenia. We do not have a luxury about seperating Russian military base in Armenia from Armenia. Because the Russian military base in Gyumri is always in the service of Armenia and this base is for defence of the country. Other than that many officials in the military base are Armenian descent officers and soldiers. In the begining of 1990s, in war for Nagorno Karabakh, Armenia was striking Azerbaijan from Russian military base too. We wonder what are these arms for? What is the aim of Moscow with arming Armenia this much? Why Russian officials arms Armenia in this amount while they are repeating that they want neighbourly relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Russia does not have replies for these questions.

Between 1993 and 1996 Russia sent Armenia 1 billion dollars worth arms within illegal ways. That time Former President of Azerbaijan Haydar Aliyev approached to the issue seriously and called Russia to withdraw its arms from Armenia. In 3 July Haydar Aliyev visitied Moscow and interviewed the issue with Russian President Boris Yeltsin in detail. Yeltsin promised that he will take the care of the issue but nothing changed. Following days Aliyev visited Washington and Azerbaijani President had interviewed the issue with Bill Clinton. Aliyev suggested for U.S. to establish a military base to Azerbaijan since Russia donated Armenia arms of worth 1 billion dollars.

The issue of donation of Russia to Armenia arms of 1 billion American dollars worth had its place in the agenda of Haydar Aliyev for long years. When Vladimir Putin became the President of Russia the issue lost its importance a bit.

Thus, with the warm relations that Azerbaijan have with Putin, Baku forgot about the issue of arms of free charge. But now it seems Moscow does not care about it
