Turkish American Business Association (TABA/AmCham) Chairman Ugur Terzioglu has stated that the importance of the relations between Turkey and the US has increased tremendously with the inauguration of Barack Obama as the new US president.
He issued a written statement on Monday to share his remarks, at the dawn of a new era for the US, on what this new beginning implies for Turkish-US relations. Belying expectations that relations between the two nations may deteriorate due to a number of clashes on some issues, such as possible US support for Armenian claims that genocide took place during a forced emigration in 1915 squelching the mutiny of Ottoman Armenians, he claimed the two nations will have the closest relations in their mutual history during Obama's term in power. Although relations may see fluctuations under different administrations, the strategic alliance between Turkey and the US has strictly established rules, Terzioglu emphasized. The US and Turkey have an alliance on military and economic affairs, and they share common interests on numerous issues, he noted.
