Reaction of Prime Minister Erdogan to Israeli President Shimon Peres in Davos Economical Meeting caused different reactions in the Jewish lobby in US. Even some of the Jewish lobby foundations say that they will reconsider their support to Turkey about Armenian issue with struggling to prevent an Armenian resolution to pass from the Congress, the major Jewish lobby organization declared that their position about the issue is not changed.
An official from one of the leading Jewish lobby organizations in U.S. told Israeli daily newspaper Jerusalem Post that the weakening Turkish Israeli ties may effect their stance about working for preventing an Armenian resolution to pass from the Congress. Israeli journal highlighted the splitting in Israeli community between the ones who supports Turkey with considering political interests and the ones who questionizes backing Turkey in Armenian issue. The official of the Jewish foundation that is being talked about said, "Any Jew would think about humiliating Turkey. But maybe next time they would not run for helping Turkey eagerly."
Foxman: Disagreement between friends
Leaders of major Jewish lobbies in U.S. tell that their positions on Armenian issue is not changed. A leader of a Washington based Jewish lobbying organization said that it is not the matter of discussion for Jewish lobbies to reconsider their attitude about Armenian issue and to support the passage of a law draft that recognizes 1915 events as Armenian genocide. Stating that such attitude would only make things worse, leader of Jewish lobby said, "If they do not support an Armenian bill to pass from the senate considering the relations between Turkey and Israel, and if they concern about the Jewish community in Turkey, i do not think that they will change their stance about the issue. Those concerns remains."
President of the major Jewish lobby organization in United States, ADL (Anti Defamation League) which attracted attention with strongly opposing to the Armenian bill in 2007, Abraham Foxman said that there was not an urgency about changing the attitude against Armenian bills as long as Turkey has diplomatic relations with Israel and said, "Penalizing or awarding is not matter of discussion. We do not change our stance with looking to the words of people if they are wrong or right. The interests between Turkey and Israel goes on." Stating that there were friend of him who canceled their visits to Turkey because of reaction of Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan to Israeli President, Foxman defined the lately developments between Israel and Turkey as "disagreement between friends" and said, "There were statements by the leadership that we found unsuitable. But they did not change the basis of the relations with Israel."
