
Babacan said that third countries should avoid intervening the ongoing negotiations between Turkey and Armenia about 1915 events.
Foreign Minister Ali Babacan held a mutual press conference with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mefsin. Stating that he met with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, National Security Advicer Jim Jones and special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrook during his contacts in Munich in the weekend, Babacan did not give details about his contacts.
Stating that meetings for normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia is continuing, Babacan underscored that parties made progess in each meeting and wanted third countries to aviod initiatives which would damage this process. Babacan warned U.S. saying, "1915 events is one of the topics we are negotiating with Armenia. In fact, i do not think that it would be constructive if third countries intervene this process."
Underscoring that everyone should support ongoing process and should avoid approaches which may damage this process, Babacan said, "We are aiming to have progress in the issues like Cyprus and Armenian issue as we try to cooperate with new American government in many fields." Mentioning his impressions about new American administration in his contacts in Munich, Babacan said that he found new U.S. administration eagerly for dialogue and cooperation.
Foreign Minister Ali Babacan had met with his Armenian counterpart during his contacts in Munich. After that Babacan had a meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sarksyan. Flying to Baku with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Memmedyarov from Munich, Babacan met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev yesterday.
