In the article that is published in Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Israeli Major General Avi Mizrahi is criticized because of his "ugly" statements. The Haaretz wrote, "The duty of the General is not orienting the foreign policy of Israel nor evaluating policies of other countries. The thing that is more desperate is that General's courage about condemning a strategical ally and doing so damaging the relations between Turkey and Israel." The newspaper wrote that Foreign Ministry of Israel started to use "Armenian card" against Turkey as a punishment.
Haaretz wrote that Foreign Ministry of Israel may had thought that such threat is needed after the harsh criticals of Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan over the operations of Israel in Gaza. It said that the debate is not whether to define the loses of Armenians in 1915 as massacres or genocide. "The criticism is aimed at Israel's trying to make political use of the Armenian issue to 'punish' Turkey for daring to be so insolent as to condemn the military operation, whose results are a matter of controversy even in Israel", wrote the article.
The article stressed that Turkey is the most important ally of Israel even Turkish Prime Minister was not tolerative about the operations of Israel in Gaza and even he criticized it harshly. Haaretz wrote, "Thus what should Israeli Foreign Ministry do is freezing this crisis and normalizing the relations." Haaretz wrote that General Mizrahi would be fired if he had made such statement in any other time.
