In his speech that he made in the Most-2009 meeting in Tsahkadzor, Armenia Tigran Sargsyan suggested cooperation over Nuclear Energy.

According to the report of Arminfo agency, Sargsyan said, "It should be known that we will welcome the cooperation between Turkey and Russia over the building process of the new nuclear power plant to Armenia as Metsamor nuclear power plant will be shut down due to its age. We are open for cooperation." Sargsyan suggested Russia, Turkey and Armenia to cooperate on nuclear technology and said that that will not be important only economically but will also have political importance.

Metsamor nuclear power plant is same type with the power plant that was in Chernobyl and it is placed 50 kilometers distance to Turkish border. Metsamor was shut down after Spitak earthquake beacuse of the risks due to old technology of the power plant but after the war in Karabakh Armenia found itself in a bottleneck of energy and it restarted to operate Metsamor in 1995.

Nowadays only fourth unit of the reactor is operating and Yerevan administration decided for a new nuclear power plant to be built. New Metsamor nuclear power plant
