ETHNIC ARMENIANS IN GEORGIA AND ARMENIAN-GEORGIAN RELATIONS

President of Georgian National Assembly David Bakradze made a speech in national Parliament of Armenia in which he evaluated the relations between two country saying, "Two Christian neighbour state backed each other for centuries, and we could survive because of that. Our relations develops today too and trade between our countries is on increase." David Bakradze reminded the highway project which connects Yerevan to Batumi and mentioned the project "call of one thousand years" telling socio-economical projects on Javakh (Meskhet) region where has a huge Armenian population. Bakradze underscored the importance of good relations between Georgia and Armenia for the region and said that countries should be defended against assaults and regional problems should be solved.

Reminding Georgia and Armenia have problems, Bakrazade said that should be considered as normal between neighbouring states. Bakrazade said those problems will be solved with the way of dialogue.

While Bakrazade was adressing to Armenian Parliamentarians with pleasing words, an Armenian parliamentarian Shirak Torosyan was attacking over Georgian deputy minister of foreign affairs Grigol Vashadze. Georgian diplomat had stated that there were no other problems in Meskhet region of Georgia other than socio-economic problems. This approach caused reactions in Armenia.

Torosyan knew that there were more problems other than socio-economic situation. Torosyan was claiming that ethnic Armenians in the region has problems over language, culture and political issues. Stating that Georgian administration is not letting for the opening of a Georgian-Armenian university in Meskhet, Torosyan was telling that issue will strain relations. Stating that 150,000 Armenian will not leave the region, Torosyan was pointing that problem should be solved peacefully.

Another Armenian official accused Georgia with applying a holigan policy over ethnic Armenians in Meskhet and threated Georgia with a riot. Leader of "Yerkir" organization Sevak Artsruni said that Armenia should follow more courageous policy over Meskhet region.
