On the basis of a text of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior sent a letter to other towns with orders not to establish relations of twinning with 12 Bulgarian towns or to terminate them if such have already been launched.
Three Turkish towns terminated twinning after it became clear their Bulgarian twin towns recognized so called Armenian genocide. These are - Bursa, Kurkklareli and Adapazara. They terminated twinning with Dobrich, Plovdiv and Shumen after the circular letter of July 18, 2008.
