The EU Summit on the Eastern Partnership program will take place in Prague on May 7.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Earlier, OSCE Minsk Group Russian Co-Chair Yuriy Merzylakov told journalists that a meeting between the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents will take place within the next two months. Merzylakov made the statement at a news conference in Baku.
"Our visit to the region aimed to organize the presidents' next meeting and we achieved this," Merzylakov said. He expressed his satisfaction on behalf of the co-chairs that both presidents supported this idea.
He did not divulge the exact date and place of the meeting.
