Azerbaijani ATV television broadcasted a program in which candidates for municipality Presidency of Kars and Igdir were introduced. TV program accused candidates of Justice and Development Party with treason while it praised candidates of Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). Especially candidate of Nationalist Movement Party of Municipality Presidency of Igdir, Ekber Yesil is introduced as a pro-Azerbaijani candidate. On the other hand TV channel claimed that Justice and Development Party candidate Nureddin Aras is betraying to Turkishness and Azerbaijan.
There is a big Azerbaijani population both in Kars and Igdir, and support of Azerbaijan to the candidates is important for the Azerbaijani citizens in Turkey. Recent rapprochement policy of Justice and Development Party with Armenia made Azerbaijani officials to have closer ties with Nationalist Movement Party officials. During the Presidency of Haydar Aliyev and Ilham Aliyev Azerbaijani officials did not support nationalist groups, but lately Azerbaijans support to Natonalist politicians became obvious.
