Touching upon Armenian-Turkish relations in his 45 minute speech, he said that every country must be able to overcome its past and go forth after summarizing the past events, Tert.am reported.

"The unsettled issues of the past can become a heave weight. Every country must be able to overcome the problems of the past. Only summarizing the results of events may become a basis for better future. I know that some people in this hall have formed opinions about the terrible events that occurred in 1915.

Though there are numbers of comments about my opinion, I know that "work" with the past is a task of Armenians and Turkey. Creation of fair, transparent and constructive atmosphere of work with the past is the only way of progress for the peoples of Turkey and Armenia.

We have already witnessed the historical steps taken by the powers of Armenia and Turkey.

These dialogues promise to open a new stage in the further relations of the two states. Opening of border will become a basis for peaceful co-existence of the two states. That is why, the United States supports normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey", said the US president.

Speaking of Turkey's role in the Karabakh issue, Obama said that this is a country that might promote establishment of peace and good relations between all the South Caucasus states.

He noted that Turkey might play a constructive role in the resolution of the Karabakh conflict that "has been too protracted".
